I think I bought a counterfeit!

I bought an Aspire Nautillus 5ml from https://www.myfreedomsmokes.com/aspire-nautilus-bdc-glassomizer-9380.html. It was on sale for $19.95 at the time. They claim it's genuine in the description.

It does have the hologram sticker, and the scratch off serial number, but when I check it on the website all it says below it is "undefined" (see link to pic at bottom of post)

There is a frosted plastic "sleeve" around the main box. The outside box top and bottom do seem to be pressed paperboard, covered in what appears to be a thin black plastic lining (which doesn't cover the inside, where i can see the paperboard). The inside formed part that holds the Aspire, though, is pure plastic. It even has the triangle recycle logo with "PS" written inside! It's in the hole where the ego cone goes. Also below the ego cone hole, there is no "aspire" logo.

It came with BDCs, and burned like heck at first, until I switched to the 1.8ohm which worked incredibly well on my unregulated mech mod. When I shine a light into the atomizer, I see a little 2 little spring looking coils (maybe this is what the BDC looks like? I only have seen pictures of the BVC mesh.) They messed my order up and forgot to include the 5-pack of 1.6ohm BDCs, and responded quite quickly to my request for support and are going to send me a 5-pack of 1.8 ohm BVCs (they are "out of stock" on the 1.8 ohm BDCs).

It vapes quite nicely...though not as good as the Real Thing I imagine. Unless the packaging has changed? Do I have a counterfeit? If so what should I do? please help!

I'm attaching photos....or maybe not, it's not letting me link to google drive pics with the IMG function, have to use URL

  • Dear Jb0nez,
Would you send your security code and the picture to our service:
    service@aspirecig.com
    We will check for you.
Thank you and have a nice day!
  • The full size Nautilus does have a smooth black plastic tray like in your picture. The Nautilus Mini has a grey paperboard tray with the Aspire logo.

As for the coil burning it may have just needed more time to prime or soak up juice.

To post pictures you need to use the "img" tag for each link. example picture-link

  • One thing I have been noticing, is that the units that are priced below wholesale tend to be counterfeit (if the price looks to good to be true, it might be).

You can go to Aspire's wholesale page (http://www.aspirecigwholesale.com/) and check the wholesale prices. If a product is being sold at wholesale price, it still might be genuine and they might be selling it as a "loss leader" to entice you buy other things at decent resale price. But they are not taking in account the cost of shipping.

The general rule of thumb with retail price is double the cost + 10-20% of cost of shipping (depending on the number of units shipped in an order). Also known as MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price).

But if someone is selling genuine products below wholesale, they are being foolish, or selling counterfeit products.
  • How strange.. I replied but my reply never showed up.

SUPPORT: As a poster indicated, can you confirm that the aspire 5ml's inside form is indeed plastic and not paperboard? Also, in addition to the SN, what pictures do you want me to send? They are very large so might cause attachment issues.

As far as the burning, when I used the 1.6ohm on my voltage regulated mod, it was fine. It was just my unregulated mech-mod that needs the 1.8ohm.

Also for the SN checker, the result of just the text "undefined" indicates to me a scripting error server side; when I tried later it said it had been checked 2 times. Perhaps it counted the two failed/"undefined" attempts in its database but just didn't give me correct results.

Re the img tags, I'm well aware of how to use them, when I put the URL to the publically shared pictures inside them it would show a broken link image; when I went to that URL in a browser, it brought the picture up. In fact when I hit "Preview" it SHOWED my pics inline. But the post didn't have them, and preview now doesn't.
I'm also not getting notifications of replies, and yes I've checked to Notify me when a reply is posted, and YES I've checked my spam folder.

I'm not a forum neophyte, let's focus on the issue -- is this counterfeit or not? For others who have aspire 5mls is your "3d sticker" a golden color, multipoint starish shape, gold colored holographish sticker on the back of the box? Is your inset form plastic but outside box paperboard? Does the inset say aspire under the ego cone holder? Can you even click to see any of my pics? I tried using both img and url /url to and both dropbox and google.

    Thank you.
  • Dear Jb0nez,
We are sorry that we couldn't open your link,it says "not access"

  • You do need to send your security code to Tina so they can check it out for you.

I'm just saying that from what I see in your photo's it doesn't really look fake.

Nautilus and Nautilus Mini produced after August 5th have a 3D sticker
    https://www.aspirecig.com/news/news170.html

Yours could have been packaged before August 5th. Your gold hologram on the back looks just like the ones on my boxes. My trays are smooth black plastic with no Aspire logo and my boxes are paperboard.

When I first started buying the Nautilus I did alot of reading and watching reviews. Some of the fakes I have seen in other peoples post in other forums..... The booklet on the front where it says "USER MANUAL FOR" the word Nautilus under that is in dark charcoal gray. It should be a light gray. The fakes had a very thin glass tank making them easy to break. The trays were black plastic but a cheaper plastic that had alot of bubbles in the plastic. I'm not saying all fakes are like this just the ones I have seen other people post pictures of. There was a page on here somewhere showing fakes and real one:
    https://www.aspirecig.com/news/news114.html

Just give Tina your security code so they can check it out.
  • Support could only tell me it was manufactured March 2014 and had been checked ten times and that the techs didn't find anything wrong in the pics. That could be me, kept trying and getting plaintext "undefined" from the check page, in both chrome and IE. Maybe it's my adblocker, I dunno. So I think I got a legit for $19.95!

My 5-pack of BVC heads came from same vendor today so I'm back to vaping. Hope these last longer than 4 days like the 1.8ohm BCD did before becoming caked with carbon and unusuable.

Oh and the SN check for those also returned "undefined". Whatever. They're in the aluminum blister pack and work great.
  • I don't have anymore security codes to check right now. But I've been noticing a trend with everyone checking their codes and getting "undefined" errors: Ad blocking

It seems like everyone that gets the error has some sort of ad blocking settings turned on in their browser. That, or there more counterfeit units than there are genuine units on the market.

The next time I have to check the security codes, I'm going to do a fresh install of Firefox and make sure that I don't have any ad blocking plugins, settings, etc. enabled. Then we'll see.
